Many of us adopted “growth mindset” (Dweck, 2006); but motivation science has grown significantly over recent decades! Combining lessons from peer-reviewed texts (Dweck, Dixon, & Gross, 2023; Bong, Reeve, & Kim, 2023) with practical techniques, this session will bottom-line the what, why, and how behind building resilience and self-efficacy.

Research indicates that schools can improve academic achievement when they support gifted learners’ cognitive and affective characteristics. This session will highlight the goals and components of an affective curriculum and provide examples to illustrate direct and indirect learning connections to support the whole gifted child in the classroom.

In this session, you'll engage in a rapid exploration and discussion of STEM opportunities. We will emphasize the integration of new TEKS standards while addressing the metacognitive needs of gifted learners. Infused with the natural differentiator of depth & complexity will create learning worthy of the brightest.

Learn strategies using Kaplan and Gould's Depth & Complexity Icons to extend the thinking of advanced learners. Teachers will integrate the icons to promote differentiated instruction, problem-based learning, and collaborative communities. The goal is cultivating critical thinkers through reading and writing strategies, preparing today’s problem solvers for real-world challenges.
